Degrees of Comparison

Positive Degree

Positive Degree का प्रयोग किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु के गुण के लिए सामान्यत: तब होता है जब उसकी तुलना न की जा रही हो। 

जैसे- Ravi is good player.

Comparative Degree

Comparative Degree का प्रयोग दो व्यक्ति या वस्तु के गुणों की तुलना करने के लिए किया जाता है

जैसे-  She is more intelligent than her brother.

Superlative Degree

Superlative Degree का प्रयोग दो से अधिक व्यक्ति या वस्तु के गुणों की तुलना के लिए किया जाता है

जैसे- Rekha is the most beautiful girl in the school.

Some Important Rules

(A) Prior, Senior, Superior, Junior, Prior, Inferior, Posterior के बाद preposition "to" का प्रयोग होता है न कि conjunction "than" का। इनके साथ "more" या "most" का प्रयोग भी नहीं किया जाता है। 
जैसे- He is more senior to me.(✘)
He is senior to me.(✔)

(B) Interior, exterior, minor, major आदि Positive Degree Adjectives है ना तो इनसे पहले "more" या "most" का प्रयोग होता है और ना ही इनके बाद "than" या "to" का प्रयोग होता है 

जैसे- The interior decoration of the principal’s office is excellent.

(C) Comparatively या Relatively के बाद हमेशा Positive Degree का प्रयोग किया जाता है

जैसे- The weather is comparatively hotter today.(✘)

The weather is comparatively hot today.(✔)

(D) Enough के पहले हमेशा Positive Degree का प्रयोग किया जाता है

जैसे- He is enough intelligent to understand your tricks.(✘)
 He is intelligent enough to understand your tricks.(✔)

(E) Prefer के बाद "to" का प्रयोग होता है, यदि तुलना दो Nouns के बीच में किया जाता है।  
जैसे- She prefers fish to chicken.

Note- लेकिन यदि तुलना दो Infinitives के बीच हो तो Prefer के बाद rather than का प्रयोग किया जाता है। 

जैसे- I prefer to read rather than play.

Note-यदि दो verbs को Prefer के बाद प्रयोग किया जाता है तो दोनों Verbs को Gerundial Form में लिखा जा सकता है। और दोनों Nouns के बीच में "To" का प्रयोग किया जाता है। 

जैसे- I prefer reading to writing.

(F) Preferable के बाद "to" का प्रयोग किया जाता है 

जैसे- Lemon juice is preferable to tea.

(G) Major, Unique, round, milky, Perfect, complete, full, excellent, unique, extreme, circular, universal, chief, golden, blind आदि का न तो Comparative बनाया जाता है और न ही Superlative बनाया जाता है इन्हे Absolute Adjective कहा जाता है। क्योंकि ये Positive में होते हुए भी Superlative का अर्थ देते है। 
  

जैसे- This is one of the most major operations.(✘)

This is one of the most major operations.(✔)

(H) "so" या "as" के साथ हमेशा Positive Degree और "as" का प्रयोग किया जाता है। 

जैसे- He is as good as Ram.(✘)

He is as better as Ram.(✔)
