USE OF DEFINITE ARTICLE THE

1. The का प्रयोग पूर्व निर्धारित या पहले से चर्चा की हुई वस्तु या व्यक्ति के पहले किया जाता है ।

Ex. Open window. (✘)  

Open the window. (✔)

Did they post letter?(✘)

Did they post the letter? (✔)

Sit in bus. (✘)

Sit in the bus. (✔)

Stand up on bench. (✘)

Stand up on the bench. (✔)

Note:- दूसरे शव्दों  हम कह सकते है की 'The' का प्रयोग वैसे Noun के पहले किया जाता है जिसके बारे में वक्ता(Speaker) को पहले से जानकारी प्राप्त हो या उस Noun के बारे में पहले चर्चा हो चुकी है। जैसे की उपर  के गलत -सही वाक्यों से स्पष्ट है ।

2. Singular Countable Noun के पहले पूरी जाति विशेष की विशेषता बतलाने की लिए भी 'The' का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।

Ex. The dog is a faithful animal. (✔)

The tiger is a fierce animal. (✔)

The child is naughty. (✔)

3. 'The' का प्रयोग  दर/माप/हिसाब  बतलाने के लिए किया जाता है।

Ex. Oil is sold by the litre.(✔)

Sugar is sold by the kilo.(✔)

Cloth is sold by the metre.(✔)

4. 'The' का प्रयोग Musical Instruments (वाध - यंत्रो) के नाम के पहले किया जाता है ।

Ex. Dhananjay wants to play on the harmonium.(✔)

I can play the guiter.(✔)

5. किसी आविष्कार (Invention) के नाम के पहले  'The' का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।

Ex. Who invented the telescope/Telephone?(✔)

Note:- The television (The T.V.), The cinema, The radio, The wireless etc. का प्रयोग होता है ।

Ex. Listen to the radio.(✔)

on the radio.(✔)

Watch/on the Television/The T.V.(✘)

Watch/on Television/T.V.(✔)

6 . व्यक्ति के पद के पहले 'The' का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।

Ex. This S.P. has come.(✔)

This decision was taken by the chief minister.(✔)

7. शरीर  के अंगो (Parts of the body) के नामो के पहले 'The' का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।

Ex. The police hit him on the head.(✔)

The criminal was shot in the leg.(✔)

He caught the child by the ear. (✔)

8. जब किसी Singular Countable Noun (Common Noun) का प्रयोग Abstract Noun के अर्थ में किया जाता है, तो उसके पहले 'The' का प्रयोग किया जाता है । अर्थात , जब  कोई Noun किसी गुण  या भाव को व्यक्त करता है तो उसके पहले 'The' का प्रयोग किया जाता है 

Ex. The judge in him.(✔)

The doctor in him.(उसके अंदर की डॉक्टर की भावना)(✔)

The mother in her.(उसके अंदर की डॉक्टर की भावना)(✔)

9. Superlative Degree के पहले 'The' का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Ex. Babita is the best student of the class.(✔)

Ankita is the most beautiful girl in her family.(✔)

Note:- परन्तु 'Most' का प्रयोग 'Very' के अर्थ में हो, तो उसके पहले 'The'  की जगह Article 'A' का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।

Ex. She is a most beautiful girl.(✔)

This is a  most useful reference book.(✔)

10. The का प्रयोग Comparative Degree के पहले Selection बतलाने के लिए किया के लिए किया जाता है इस स्थिति में Comparative Degree के बाद "Of The Two" या "Of The Two+Plural Noun" का प्रयोग किया जाता है। "Than" का नही।

Ex. She is better of the two boys.(✘)

She is the better of the two boys.(✔)

He is stronger of the two boys.(✘)

He is the stronger of the two boys.(✔)
